Unless a physician has prescribed a cannabidiol (CBD) product, it can be difficult to figure out what dose of CBD is your “sweet spot”. So, how do you dose CBD?

This article will give you the ins and outs on how to dose CBD*.

What Does the Research Say?

We have to be really careful when interpreting the research on CBD dosing because a majority of the studies have been performed on animals. Although most of these studies have shown a benefit for the various conditions CBD has been experimentally used to treat, it doesn’t necessarily mean we can extrapolate all of these results to humans.

With that said, from the human studies we do have, we know that up to 1500mg of CBD — even when used chronically — have been shown repeatedly to be well-tolerated by humans (1).

However, a 1500mg dose of CBD is astronomical for most, extremely expensive, and likely unnecessary.

For the way most users implement their CBD products, a dose between 25mg and 75mg of CBD might be optimal. This information is derived from a case series on anxiety & sleep, where most users experienced an improvement in their anxiety with a 25mg dose per day (2). Sleep scores also improved within the first month of this dosage, however, scores fluctuated after the fact.

It’s worth noting that this study was a case series, so it has its limitations.

Beyond this, there’s not a whole lot of insight we can derive from research. But, CBD/hemp research is growing and, soon, we will likely have a better idea of what dosages work best for certain conditions.

The Difference with Full Spectrum Hemp Oils

Another issHow do you dose CBD and find your sweet spot? Learn more here.ue with some of the research we see on CBD products is that a lot of studies use CBD isolate extracts, not full-spectrum extracts that contain all of the other beneficial cannabinoids, terpenes, and sterols. Not only do these compounds offer benefits of their own, but they also enhance the activity of the product as a whole.

What does this mean for understanding how to dose CBD? Let’s look at one study on epilepsy. This study found that a dose of full-spectrum hemp extracts was just as effective as a dose four times higher of CBD isolate (3).

So, although a dose of 25mg sounds low compared to some of the dosages we see in pre-clinical and clinical trials, a full spectrum hemp extract has considerably higher activity.

How Do I Find My Sweet Spot?

Everyone’s absorption, assimilation, and metabolism of cannabinoids are different. So, no blanket dosage is going to work for everyone and their needs.

The best way to find the dosage that works for you is to start with one dose, consistently, for two to three days. If you find that doesn’t work for you, increase the dosage by an additional dose and see how you feel. Once you’ve found relief, you’ve found the correct dosage for your body, or the “sweet spot”.

If you consistently need high dosing, you might find that purchasing a higher potency product is more cost-effective.

  • 500mg Tincture: 8.5mg of CBD per dose, 60 day supply
  • 250mg Tincture: 4mg of CBD per dose, 60 day supply
  • 10mg Softgels: 10mg of CBD per dose, 30 day supply
  • 25mg Softgels: 25mg of CBD per dose, 30 day supply
  • 250mg Balm:┬ádosage of CBD depends on how much is used
  • 500mg Balm: dosage of CBD depends on how much is used

The tinctures are administered under the tongue (sublingual) for direct absorption into the bloodstream whereas the softgels are delivered through the digestive system in a highly bioavailable nanoemulsion. The balms offer more targeted pain relief.

All of these can be found in the online store.
