As interest in Hemp continues to increase in scientific, academic and legislative arenas, so too does consumer curiosity regarding the potential benefits afforded by the plant’s extracts and derivatives, such as cannabidiol hemp oil. But in the world of hemp oil products, one type stands above the rest when it comes to retaining as much of the plant’s essential ingredients as possible: full spectrum hemp oil. As a result, it may be the best option to meet your needs.

Full spectrum hemp oil contains all of the chemical compounds found in the hemp plant, including cannabinoids, terpenoids, phytonutrients, vitamins, amino acids and essential fatty acids. In order to create full spectrum hemp oil, steps must be taken to ensure these important compounds are not lost or degraded during the extraction process. The only exception is the psychoactive compound, tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, which is removed. In most hemp products, there are trace amounts of THC, usually in the neighborhood of .03%. PhytoLogica goes one step further – we’re able to retain the full spectrum of cannabinoids and gently remove the THC without disturbing the other beneficial plant compounds and molecules. Most of our competitors don’t have the technology to do this.

What is the Entourage Effect?

By keeping compounds like cannabinoids, terpenes and essential fatty acids together, full spectrum hemp oil is believed to be able to utilize something known as the “entourage effect”. This refers to the potential synergistic, enhancing effects these ingredients have on one another when consumed in combination. When separated, as in extract-only or other isolate oils, the benefits are rarely achieved.

How Full Spectrum Hemp is Unique

Whereas full spectrum hemp oil is made from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant, hemp seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant, which do not contain cannabinoids. Due to the absence of these compounds, specifically PCR extract, hemp seed oil likely cannot offer the breadth of potential benefits that are believed possible with full spectrum hemp oil.*

But full spectrum hemp products are not to be confused with PCR Extract-only hemp products. The latter contains only the isolated hemp compound. In producing these hemp-only products, the extraction process removes all of the other compounds including Cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabinol (CBN), and Cannabichromene (CBC), as well as terpenoids, essential amino acids, enzymes, flavonoids, vitamins and essential fatty acids. This means that while the end product may be able to offer potential hemp-related benefits, it cannot take advantage of the entourage effect the way full spectrum hemp products can.*

What Makes Full Spectrum Hemp So Important

Clinical trials and studies have shown that the critical compounds found in the whole hemp plant have the potential to offer a range of benefits. Depending on the person, the interaction of these compounds within the body may help with immune system health, anxiety, pain and inflammation, central nervous system health, quality of sleep, cardiovascular health, brain health, and skin health.* Full spectrum hemp oil retains these essential compounds so that they can be ingested as softgels or tinctures or applied topically as a balm. As always, in evaluating whether full spectrum hemp oil is right for you, be sure to do your own research and draw from only the most reputable, up-to-date sources.

At PhytoLogica, we believe in the benefits full spectrum hemp oil has to offer. That’s why we use the entire plant in our extract, unlike hemp seed oil and hemp-only products. Our full spectrum hemp extract retains all the important phytocannabinoids, phytonutrients, terpenes, vitamins and fatty acids found in the hemp plant, but none of the Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. What makes this possible is our proprietary extraction and purification process. Our methods combine Supercritical CO2 extraction with cold, enclosed and continuous manufacturing processes using chromatography, protecting these delicate compounds from loss or degradation.
